In the video installation Windows visitors can discover different landscapes trough the windows of seven abandoned and uninhabited buildings – six living houses and one church. Nature literally surrounds the buildings; its presence can be felt immediately and quite directly. The interior still exudes the presence of its former residents. This is evidenced by the furniture, clothes, crockery, tools and documents left behind.
The work invites a viewer to contemplate about the cyclicality of interaction between a human and nature. Hundred years have passed since the time when people invaded the landscape in the middle of nowhere and turned it into their place of residence. After freeing up space, building their home and setting up a garden, they sat down at the table and looked through the window at their landscape for years. The circle is currently coming to an end – the scars made by people are overgrowing and the landscape is gradually returning to its original wilderness.
The work was made and exhibited for the first time in the group exhibition Contemporary Landscape at the Art Festival Cēsis 2016 in Latvia.
